Process Dance Class

Every second week I facilitate a group Process Dance session in Billund to help people re-connect with their body, shake off the stress and turbulent emotions of the everyday life, to process long-buried emotions and to regenerate their nervous system.

It's opened to everyone who wants to move their body freely, who wants to tune in with their inner world and who wants to connect with like-minded people.

Look at the dates below and book your place in advance, as places are very limited.

What is Process Dance and who is it for?

Process Dance is a form of dance therapy (DMT) that uses conscious movement to help achieve emotional, mental, social and physical well-being.

It is often used to reduce stress, to release blocked emotions, to beat fatigue and depression and to energise the body and the mind.

In our modern life we have very limited ways to express emotions, either vocally or with our bodies, therefore these emotions often get stuck and stored in our bodies, causing energetic and physical ailments.

During dance therapy you begin to gently and naturally move your body, so these blocked emotions can get released.

During Process Dance you are guided to dance along a story with a curated playlist that supports tuning into your body's own storytelling.

In a safe and non-judgmental environment you can let go of your control over your movements and begin to listen to what your body has to tell you.

Participants often experience liberation and a whole scale of emotions. They can get deep insights about their own feelings or what holds them back in their lives.

They often feel a sudden flow of energy, vitality or calmness and relief.

Regular dance therapy supports a healthy, trustful relationship with our bodies and with the self.

What happens in the body during Process Dance?

When we dance, the level of the feel-good hormone, serotonin is increased, and new neural connections get developed, especially in regions involved in executive function, long-term memory, and spatial recognition. Neurodivergent people especially benefit from this.

Dancing gently improves our muscles - and in case of process dance we often begin to use those muscles that are not trained regularly.

Our heart and sacral organs also get to be used more and gently massaged, which can help the healthy functioning of these vital parts of us.

Dancing is mostly connected to the sacral chakra, which is the home of the creative life energy, raw emotions, motion and flow in life, and it is even connected with our relationships.

However, with process dance we often open other energy centers, as well. Often our wise body will guide us in that in order to serve us the best.

Music is a great part of the therapy. The carefully chosen playlist supports the processing of emotions and lifting the mood.

Only by connecting and tuning into high frequency music regularly, our own vibration can be shifted.

What do we do in a Process Dance class?

We start with a grounding, warm up exercise.

After that the facilitator presents the 'storyline' for the session and everyone individually sets intentions for themselves.

We usually spend 30-45 mins dancing freely (with dimmed lights, music on, eyes closed and with lots of space) and after a bit of warm-down and integration exercise, everyone gets the opportunity to reflect on their bodily and emotional experiences by taking notes and optionally sharing with the group.

It is much encouraged in Process Dance to follow your own rhythm and the needs of your body. Some people move slowly and dance while they are sitting, some people will jump around with big movements.

In case of heart or other physical or mental condition you need to be especially mindful about the needs of your body. There is only a few contraindications in this modality. Please let your facilitator know about your special condition to stay safe.
